Police cast doubt on the politician's explanation after violent assault

The German Police and the prosecutor's office has now put in question by a right-wing German politician's explanation, after he Monday, was subjected to a violent attack that left him with serious head injuries, writes The Guardian.

Police say that video footage of the incident cast doubt on the explanation from the politician Frank Magnitz, among other things, was that he had been badly beaten with a 'wooden object' of the assailants, who first stopped their attacks, when two passers-by intervened.

The 66-year-old politician, who is the head of the højrepopulistiske Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) in the city of Bremen, was admitted to the hospital Monday after he was attacked by unknown assailants.

His party, AfD, claimed shortly after the incident, to Magnitz had been struck down with a wooden object, before he was beaten in several places in the face.

Magnitz gave several interviews from his hospital bed Tuesday where he among other things said to the Berliner Morgenpost that he would not over-dramatise the attack, but that he believed he was being subjected to a politically motivated assassination attempt'.
