Kazakhstan's parliament on Wednesday agreed to name the country's capital after the just-former president, Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Capital shifts so name from Astana to Nursultan.

It informs the state-owned news agency Kazinform.

Astana has officially been renamed Nursultan, saith the Kazinform.

Nursultan Nazarbayev withdrew Tuesday as president after almost 30 years in the post. He was the first Kazakh president ever.

His successor will be the 65-year-old Kassym-Jomart Tokajev. He was on Wednesday sworn in as the only second president in Kazakhstan's history.
