Kazakhstan's parliament on Wednesday agreed to name the country's capital after the just-former president, Nursultan Nazarbayev.
Capital shifts so name from Astana to Nursultan.
It informs the state-owned news agency Kazinform.
Astana has officially been renamed Nursultan, saith the Kazinform.
Nursultan Nazarbayev withdrew Tuesday as president after almost 30 years in the post. He was the first Kazakh president ever.
His successor will be the 65-year-old Kassym-Jomart Tokajev. He was on Wednesday sworn in as the only second president in Kazakhstan's history.
It was also where he proposed to honor his predecessor by naming the capital after him. The new president struck at the same time fixed he will continue Nursultan Nazarbajevs policy.

Nazarbajevs eldest daughter, Dariga Nazarbajeva, has also been appointed as chairman of parliament's house of lords.
the 78-year-old Nazarbayev will also continue to have great influence in Kazakhstan. The european parliament has awarded him a title as the 'nation's leader', and he is assured a lifelong position as head of the country's security council.
