No more time to brexit still to arrange: British on 23 may to the polls for European elections
The British will be on the 23rd of may elections for the European parliament. That the British government is now officially decided. There is no more time for a possible brexitakkoord for that date to get around, says minister David Lidington.

If there is already an agreement on the withdrawal from the EU should be found for 23 may, still sufficient for two weeks that there still remains no agreement on the time to put in the legal texts. “We had very hard hoping that our exit is regulated would be given, so that the elections were not to take place,” said Lidington, in a statement. “But legally, we need to organize them.”

The British prime minister Theresa May asked and got a few weeks ago the postponement of the brexit until 31 October, but the government continued to think that a former EU-exit is always possible, as the Conservative party and Labour agreement would be found. That, however, there is still not.

The European elections are held from Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 may. Most countries draw on Sunday to the polls, but, among others, the British and the Dutch do that all on Thursday. The British may 73 of the 751 meps to choose. Lidington adds in his statement that he hopes that the British members of parliament, their seat will never need to take, that he is the new deadline for the negotiations with Labour on 2 July.

“I had to intervene”

European commission President Jean-Claude Juncker takes over the self-blame that he during the referendum on the brexit not intervened. “We had to interfere and intervene. We would like only the lies that then circulated have punctured.” In the run-up to europe Day on 9 may and the informal European summit in the Romanian Sibiu and just before the European elections, it was this afternoon, Brussels time to the bilan of the Commission-Juncker, and a future plan to push forward.

all in All, we see that bilan it is Juncker. “Since my appointment I have three priorities are put forward: jobs, growth and investment. We have those promises kept,” he said. The President beats himself on the chest to stabilize the euro after the severe crisis and the problems with Greece, the new databeschermingsregels and the better-controlled digital environment.

But Juncker has also made mistakes, he admitted. The brexit is one of them. “I have listened to the British government, then under the leadership of prime minister David Cameron,” said Juncker. The then British government had the European leaders in 2016 led to believe that he is the referendum on membership of the European Union would win if Brussels would not interfere, but that didn't happen. “The former premier has asked me not to interfere in the campaign, but that was a mistake. We had to interfere and intervene. We would like only the lies that then circulated have punctured. I was wrong on that important time to be silent.”

Juncker has also regretted his late response to the Luxleaks affair, which at the very beginning of his mandate, broke loose, " he said.

The biggest success of the Commission is the salvation of Greece. “I am proud of the fact that Greece in the euro zone, despite all the criticism and pressure to do things differently.”
