The renovation of the town hall was one of the main points of discussion at the recent local elections. The tender was for that reason postponed. “That was our demand,” says vessels Filip Vercauteren. His party, CD&V was previous legislature in the board but found that the price tag is too high you down. “We felt that it was not right and wanted the project, therefore, make adjustments.” N-VA was from the start very critical. “The current town hall is an impractical building with many corners and angles and lost space,” says mayor Dimitri Van Laere.
Thursday was a new proposal placed on the table. The municipality has an agreement for the purchase of the offices and a large hangar of the former confectionery company Duc d’O. “We get a lot more space for much less money,” he explains. “The offices are actually almost ready to move in and offer spacious work areas with a beautiful view of the Polders of Kruibeke. It is an energy efficient building where sufficient space for both the municipal administration and the staff of the social WELFARE office. The new city hall will also be much more centrally located for each of the inhabitants, so also that of Bazel and Rupelmonde. There is ample parking, a bus stop at the door and a slow road to the rear. The police also gets a spot, and even her interventiewagens secure underground parking.”
unlike the former design, there is now also a solution for the technical service in the kattestraat (cat street. “The current warehouse is fully surrounded by residential area for sound and smell. There are also no expansion options,” explains Van Laere. “We buy on the site of Duc d'o, therefore, also a shed with a floor area of more than four thousand square meters, twice as much as now.”
