Speedway-legend Tomasz Gollob running into the new year with the hope to be walking again.

The former world champion has been confined to a wheelchair since he crashed on the motorcycle in april 2017 and was paralysed from the chest down.

Gollob has gotten outside help to finance the visit to the clinic. The Polish speedway-the organization has collected in to the surgery to support one of the country's big sportshelte.

I have been given the opportunity to do this in Switzerland, and it is something that I will do. The last 18 months I have been struggling to raise me up from the bed. I have cried all my tears, said Gollob in december.

The Polish profile won the individual WORLD title in 2010, and has triumphed several times at the world championship for teams.

Danish Nicki Pedersen has had Gollob as one of its biggest rivals, while the two both found themselves in the speedway-verdenstoppen.

The triple world champion was also soon out with the desire for a speedy recovery to his colleague, when the accident took place a good year and a half ago.

Pedersen is for the first time since his debut in the WORLD championship series in 2002, not to find in this year's world championship.

But even if the fynboen couldn't get access through a Danish wild card, he has not given up hope of a return to the series he last won in 2008.
