Mayor Michel Du Tré (51) death: He has fought until the last second
Waasmunster The mayor of Waasmunster Michel Du Tré (CD&V) is no more. The beloved mayor recovered last year from cancer, but fell at the beginning of march, again with a complication to the lungs. Friday morning he died from the effects of the disorder. “From his illness continued Michel, our municipality authorities. He will greatly be missed”, responds first ships Jurgen Bauwens (CD&V).

There is great dismay in Waasmunster. The mayor was greatly loved by its inhabitants. Two years ago was diagnosed with cancer at Du Tré via Facebook very openly communicated about his fight against the disease. When the chemotherapy did not come to an end put on his life by a thread, but an alternative immunotherapy brought in extremis to the rescue. In an emotional letter he thanked all Waasmunsternaars for their support. His political comeback was a great success: in October got Du Tré more than 2,000 votes in favour after his name: not a single politician did him that for in the history of Waasmunster. “Politics was part of my remedy. The last thing I wanted was to stay home and do nothing. The politics he offered me a horizon,” said Du Tré about that in an interview with our newspaper at the end of last year.
