Skipper, author and lecturer john eliot Gardiner died in the morning at home on his farm in Gravlev on Djursland. He was surrounded by his five children and his wife Else Marie.
He has for two years been aware that he suffered from the rare nerve-bone-disease ALS.
- That I shall die is completely safe, and most die after a few years, but for me, the question is, whether it is about two months or half a year. I hope that I die of my lungs, before lammelserne begin to manifest themselves. Mikkel Beha tells to Politiken, that Troels Kløvedal eventually chose to die.
He took a decision to put his heart in the stand. He said two days ago to his wife, Else Marie, that now was the time that he had to depart. And so he closed his eyes. And this morning, kept his heart up to beat, says Mikkel Beha and says further:
I sat down and emailed him the evening before, that he took the decision that he had to depart. And four-five hours before, that he took the decision, we sat and emailed back and forth with no training around the Nordkaperen, and a kapilarhjul out on the ankerspillet, and how we get it made out in Thailand. Later the same evening, he could feel that now the time had come, and so he closed his eyes and slept for two days, and then he died quite peacefully this morning.
Troels Kløvedals dreamed as a young man to sejte around on the seven seas. The dream he had met, and he sailed around the world three times.
He has starred in more than 50 tv-programs such as 'Journey to the world navel' in the year 2000, and he has written several books. Including the 'Love, kildevandet and the blue of the ocean' and 'From Tahiti to Thyborøn with Nordkaperen'
