Iran's Supreme leader has appointed a new commander of the revolutionary guards (IRGC). Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to a report by the state broadcaster IRIB, the 58-year-old General Hussein Salami for the Post. The hard-line than the applicable current IRGC Deputy commander replaces Mohamed Ali Dschafari, headed since 2007 by the revolutionary guards. The reasons for the change in leadership was not informed in the TV report.

Salami was as the IRGC Deputy for the coordination of the revolutionary guards responsible. He is against the reform policies of President Hassan Rouhani, in particular, against the latter's policy of detente with the West - and thus also against the Vienna nuclear deal.
