On the island of Novaya Zemlya in northwest Russia, there is declared a state of emergency after regular masseinvasion of polar bears.

'I've been on Novaya Zemlya since 1983. There has never been such a massive invasion of polar bears', says the director of the local administration, Viganasha Musin, in a press release.

'People are frightened, afraid to leave their houses. Their daily routines are destroyed, and parents will not let their children go to school or kindergarten', says Alexander Minajev, who is the deputy director of the administration, according to the BBC.
