In the first quarter of 2019, the immigration to Switzerland fell compared to the same period last year. Because at the same time, emigration decreased, increased the migration balance, however, to 3.5 percent.

Compared to the first quarter of 2017, the net migration decreased, however, by 6.7 per cent.

2 million foreign nationals

For family reunification 9511 people migrated, 6.6 percent less than in the first quarter of 2018. 20.6% of these people are family members of Swiss nationals.

To the end of March, 2'090'669 foreigners in Switzerland, lived. 1'429'482 of them nationals of EU or Efta, 661'187 nationals of other States. (ij/sda)
