German tourist surprised by the tide

A 30-year-old German tourist was shortly after midnight, surprised by the tide in the Wadden sea off Sønderstrand on Rømø island, and had to call for help.

It tells vagtchef Søren Strægaard from South Jutland Police.

- It is far from the first time it happens, say vagtchefen.

A helicopter and several emergency vehicles were sent out to the site and helped him in the country. The notification was received on Saturday at 00.33.

- He could neither walk or drive in the country, because the waters were too high.

- I don't know what he was doing out there so late, says Søren Strægaard.

The 30-year-old tourist was brought in to the island of Romo, where he is on vacation. He was not hurt by the incident, but his car had to be left in the water.

When the tide recedes in the Wadden sea - that is, at low tide - exposed sea floor. Thus it is possible to run and go over the Wadden sea.

After six hours flooded the seabed again.

Normally, there are between 1.3 and 2 meters difference between high and low tide in the Danish part of the Wadden sea.

Only about one-tenth of the Wadden sea belong to Denmark. The rest is out for respectively the Netherlands and Germany.
