French flygigant shedding of 15,000 jobs during the coronakrise

The French aircraft manufacturer Airbus resignation from the approximately 15,000 positions because of coronakrisen.

the Company on Tuesday presented the austerity plan, which will cost some 5,000 jobs in France, 5000 in Germany and the rest in Spain, Britain and other places.

Airbus is facing the most serious crisis the industry has ever experienced, says the company's ceo, Guillaume Faury, according to the French news agency AFP.

He adds that 40 percent of the company's normal activity has disappeared because of coronakrisen. And it will probably be a long time before it is back on a normal level again.

government stimulus measures have helped to mitigate the damage, says the director. But the aviation industry has been hit hard by the fact that the majority of all aircraft in the world has kept quiet on the ground.

Airbus is now negotiating with the employee unions about the great savings plan. The goal is to reach an agreement in the autumn.

- It becomes something of a battle to save jobs, says Françoise Vallin from the trade union CFE-CGC.

Airbus has at present a total of 135.000 employees. Many of them are older employees, who helped to develop the company's A320 model.

Over a third - 37 percent - of the employees are scheduled to retire in the coming decade.

Airbus is far from the only big company that brands the consequence of coronanedlukningerne in both Europe and the rest of the world.

the Airline Air France announced, according to AFP earlier on Tuesday that it must cut the 7500 over the next two years.
