In the years ‘80 and ‘90 sat Moureaux on different key positions in the federal and state governments: Justice, Institutional Reform, Internal Affairs and Social Affairs. He led in the ‘80s two French gemeenschapsregeringen. From 1988 to 1992, he was deputy prime minister in the last two governments of Wilfried Martens.
