DN Opinion. Motorways would be expensive and technically complex

the Swedish transport administration secures the rail system we have; we brace up, modernizes and builds out. It is the answer to Carl-Åke Utterström, who in their letters to the editor on the DN View, wondering why we aren't betting on the motorways.

There is more trains than ever on the Swedish railways and rail travel increases. Significantly increased funding means that we can now fix up a worn-out plant and gradually get a more robust, stable, and punctual rail.

But it is not enough. The railways need more capacity. Therefore, the Swedish transport administration also commissioned to build the Swedish rail system.

the main lines for high-speed trains between Stockholm and Gothenburg and Malmö, according to the government decision, starting from the endpoints and finalized in the rate at which the economy allows.

The new trunk lines frees up capacity on the existing railway line, including for freight transport. They also make the rail system more robust.

the Increased capacity makes the train run smoother for both travelers and business. In this way increases the opportunities for sustainable travel and freight transport.

also creates the conditions for regional development. In the future, high-speed trains connecting Stockholm-Gothenburg and Stockholm-Malmö with the faster transport and increase accessibility to the international markets, people and business.

the need for greater capacity on the railway and the possible solutions to it has been the subject of extensive investigations. A Swedish course for the motorways would be a completely separated system without connectivity to today's rail, and it would require new, complicated and costly connections to the main in the Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.

the Motorways are included neither in the EU's joint plans where expansion of freight corridors and high-speed rail through Europe is a priority. A high speed train on traditional rails will in the future be able to continue from Malmö continues to Copenhagen and the continent.
