Curtain falls on youth club that 50 years ago, stood at the cradle of the Dodentocht

Bornem The Bornemse youth club Kadee cease to exist. “We go in search of a new initiative for young people, but among Kadee, this was no longer possible. We hope that with all the generations together bid farewell to be able to take a solid, old-fashioned party”, say Kadee-director Kristien Booghmans and Annelies Hautekeete of the Bornemse youth service.

Kadee is in Klein-Brabant a name as a clock. The Bornemse youth club was created 51 years ago, and at the bar thought the group of enthusiastic young people, a range of other associations: a volleybalclub, a walking club... The best-known Kadee-profit association is, of course, the death march, which this summer on the 50th edition. Bornemnaar Luc De Ryck, one of the creators of the 100km long hiking trail, designed not only the Dodentocht logo, but also signed the ‘Kadee-male’ of the youth club.

After 51 years of youth club Kadee is, however, enough. “It was a very emotional decision, but we have decided to youth club Kadee vzw to dissolve. We could not, by a confluence of circumstances turned Kadee for a long time already not more as it should be. Several new boards have over the years tried to get the youth club to breathe new life into, but that didn't work out,” says Booghmans.
