After the arrest of a Huawei Manager in Poland, China rises-fear. After years of the China euphoria, with double-digit growth rates, the mood is tilted. China's aggressive behaviour has become scary. The speech of the Vice President for Pence about the new China policy of the US sound government in October as a Declaration to the Cold war. Europe should take that as an example. Between hysteria and naivety, there is room for a wise dealing with China. The country must not mutate into a new enemy image. Fear is no good Advisor.
However, Beijing has provoked the new China phobia. Through its global investment program in China States has driven into financial dependence. In the South China sea, Beijing claims the waters, by one of the most important trade routes in the world. The judgment of the court of arbitration in The Hague, denied the claim on the Region, ignored Beijing. With a military presence, it is trying to create facts, and provoked again and again, dangerous incidents with other States. Taiwan democratized in the 90s, peacefully, threatening President Xi Jinping with a "violence Association of seed." As a reaction to the investigation against a Huawei Manager in Vancouver, Beijing can be arbitrarily Canadians arrest.
China pulls whose chain?, threatens, and rages. Criticism of this behaviour is justified. It requires no confrontation, but a strategy for integration. China is the most populous country in the world and the second-largest economy. In the fight against global warming and in the case of international crises in other countries can not do without the cooperation with Beijing.
There is no new Cold war, but clear boundaries need.
Beijing is not afraid to use this dependency as a lever. Companies that do not comply with the demands of China, are threatening to lose access to the market. In Norway, fishermen could not sell their salmon after the Nobel peace prize 2010 was awarded to the now deceased Liu Xiaobo. South Korean companies had to pay for them, as planned for the U.S. against China's will to the stationing of a missile defense system in South Korea.
It doesn't need a new Cold war, but clear boundaries: Chinese investments in Europe are welcome. But it must be known who is behind the Acquisitions. Cooperation with China may not lead to dependence, but must lead in partnership. Europe must therefore insist on reciprocity.
The game room needs to be larger, as many believe Beijing needs foreign countries to new technologies and to increase the Export. Last, China needs to feel the consequences, if it is tried by espionage, election rigging and passageways of the lungs by politicians, universities, publishers and the media to weaken the other States. This happened too little.
The Situation is not as hopeless as it looks. The strategy of "change through trade" is not a failure. Hardly anyone in the country is happy about the foreclosure policy of President Xi Jinping, has also intensified the repression against the population. The people yearn for the freedoms that no longer exist under Xi.
