Baby-debate settled: the Bureau takes decision

A majority of the members of the Parliamentary Bureau, agree, it is not allowed to take her child with in Folketingssalen.

the Danish parliament's top leadership on Wednesday discussed the future directions in Folketingssalen, after the conservative member of parliament Mette Abildgaard had taken his little daughter to a vote in the house.

But before it took place, had the daughter sent out. Pia Kjærsgaard was not thought that a baby would be present in the chamber.

There is nothing specifically in the rules of procedure on children in the Folketingssalen.

But there is a lengthy practice, that it is only mps, ministers and servants of the Danish Parliament, which has access to the floor of the Folketingssalen, says Pia Kjærsgaard.

- It is loud and clear on the door, that it is reserved for mps, and in addition, we know that all employees who have a necessary errand, also must be able to be present, she says.

- Furthermore, there is not any, that must be present in the Folketingssalen.

Mette Abildgaard had, by his own admission is not expected to participate in the vote.

Her husband, who have maternity leave, had not the opportunity to take his daughter that time. There was, therefore, to speak about a particular situation, thought Abildgaard.

But also not in particular situations, the rule of no children in the chamber is bent.

Children are welcome in the Danish Parliament, and we also find that mps who have an acute pasningsproblem, taking their children with them at the offices. But the Folketingssalen is not before the babies and children, says Pia Kjærsgaard.

Question: So was Mette Abildgaard have failed to come down into the chamber and vote?

She should have found a different solution, quite clearly. It must she think very over a second time.

Although it is not every day that members feel compelled to take their children with them in Folketingssalen, think Pia Kjærsgaard, it is important to get knocked to the rules fixed.

- I have been upset by the whole discussion, it attaches I do not hide. Now, we have discussed it, and so I really hope, really that the case is over, she says.
