About 70 dead in storms in south Africa

Heavy rains in the country's south-east have destroyed homes and infrastructure in the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.

"We are concerned and distraught over the increase in number of dead," says lokalpolitikern Sihle Zikalala, KwaZulu-Natal.

– We have now been told that the number is around 70. The final figure will be released during the day.

South african military has been sent to the disaster area to help with rescue and evacuation.

More rain and strong winds are expected in the area.
