A ballot paper of 80 centimeters in length

There are so many candidates like never before, the Ukrainian presidential election on may 31. March compete. Almost 40 names are on the list, the last Thursday was officially presented. It took four hands, because the paper measures 80 centimeters. Nearly 50 additional candidates were denied registration. The field of candidates is wide: It ranges from the incumbent, a comedians to a former secret service man, Ex-Ministers and commanders of para-military voluntary associations.

But as big as the number of candidates, the number of those who trust in the election: Only 12 percent of Ukrainians believe that the elections will be free and fair. This is even for the pessimistic Ukraine, a new low. Just 9 percent have confidence in the leadership of the country, according to the renowned American market research Institute Gallup worldwide the lowest value ever. Under the highly corrupt and of the Maidan Revolution drove President Viktor Yanukovych, the trust rate was 24 percent; this was at least half as much as in the Region. Today, 91 percent of Ukrainians say corruption is widespread in the government-wide, under the old management, there were a good 80 percent.

An Outsider has the best chance of getting elected

No wonder, an Outsider, the best choice opportunities: the comedian Volodymyr Selensky. It is already clear that the man will create in the run-off election, to be either against incumbent Petro Poroshenko or against the former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, already tried several times, President.

Selensky has to do with real politics. He comes from the virtual world: He plays in a popular TV series with the name "servants of the people," the Ukrainian President. And so, as the people want it to be: a Crusader against corruption. A political program for the real life has not presented the girl to the door. "Other than our great politicians, I don't want to make pointless election promise. But I can assure you, I will make everything right." (za)
