50.000 citizens have spoken: Now, should the Danish Parliament decide to klimalov

Barely 14 days, it took 11 environment and development organisations to achieve the required 50.000 signatures for a borgerforslag on a new and more pungent Danish klimalov.

It appears by borgerforslag.dk Tuesday night about o'clock and 21: 30.

- It feels really good. We are very happy for the people who have supported.

That 50,000 people have supported our borgerforslag of 14 days, is a really good result, says Troels Dam Christensen, head of secretariat for the 92 group, an umbrella organisation of green ngos.

The co-ordinated organisations behind borgerforslaget.

The 11 organizations want with a new klimalov to ensure that Denmark takes an active part in the fight against climate change.

the Proposal suggests, among other things, that Denmark should commit to national climate change goals, living up to the Paris agreement.

The current Danish climate goals is by the year 2050, and there is, according to Troels Dam Christensen too late, if Denmark is to contribute to achieving the Paris agreement and keep the expected temperature increase below 1.5 degree.

in Addition, you must set five-year milestones, and specific climate change targets for sectors such as agriculture, transport and energy supply.

the Organisations hope that the politicians will take their responsibility and respond to borgerforslaget.

- We hope that they do something about it and make the proposal in the Parliament to implement a klimalov, says Troels Dam Christensen.

A borgerforslag will not be automatically tabled in the Parliament, when it has got about 50,000 signatures. It is, by the constitution, only mps and ministers, who may make a proposal in the Danish Parliament.

Why should political parties now take the position as to who will submit the proposal as a resolution.

It is WWF, Greenpeace, CARE Denmark, Danish society of nature conservation, Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke, danchurchaid, The Danish Ecological Council, the World's Forests, VedvarendeEnergi, 350 environmental movement and The Green Studenterbevægelse, who is behind the borgerforslaget on a new klimalov.
