According to Unicorn Riot, about one fifth of applicants to the white supremacist group Patriot Front claim that they have current or past military status.

Rocket Chat, an open-source chat platform that allows anyone to submit applications to Patriot Front, was used by the white supremacist group. 18 of those applicants claimed to be current or former military personnel. One applicant stated that he works for the Department of Homeland Security.

Patriot Front is a rebranding of neo Nazi group Vanguard America. It attended the "Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the group is "one the most prominent white supremacist organizations" in the U.S.

The applications showed that the applicant claimed he was currently employed by DHS and that he was a Marine. He stated that he "discovered about the Jews while serving in the Marines."

Another applicant claimed to be an Army Reserve member. He used derogatory language regarding the LGBTQ community and added that he had first encountered LGBTQ people in military.

The skills that they acquired while serving in the military were also discussed by the applicants. One applicant stated that he knew "Marine Martial Arts" and had been "trained to use firearms." Another claimed that he was able to navigate large areas, exercise regularly, and clear out rooms.

Apart from the "Unite the Right” rally, Patriot Front members also vandalized the George Floyd statue in Brooklyn, N.Y. in June 2021. In Richmond, Va., members also destroyed a mural depicting Arthur Ashe, a Black tennis player. According to the SPLC, some of them joined an anti-abortion protest in Washington in January.
