Hertha BSC : Arne Maier: I knew that I must dispense with much

Arne Maier is one of the positive Surprises of the Bundesliga season. He fought with his 20 years to be regulars at Hertha BSC. We have spoken with him.

Mr. Maier, how well can you swim?
Swim? It is not just the perfect weather, but otherwise, I can swim very well. Especially the chest and back. Crawl goes like this. Why do you ask?

Because your sister is supposed to be a very good swimmer.
That's right. She was in youth very successfully, even country champion in the state of Brandenburg. In their competitions, I was often in the hall and have a look. But eventually they decided against the Swim and on her a-levels and concentrated.

your sister is six years older. Did you get already an impression of how much you had to invest for competitive sports?
not Really, because I was still pretty young. Later, she was of the two of us, the one that always sat in your room and the school has learned. I was, however, rather on the football field. Swim I also tried time – but since I was only two Times, then I'm stepping back from the club, because it has made me just not fun. From then on there was only football.

it's actually easier as a teenager if you know that all the effort can pay off in the end financially?
If, as they say, can make his Hobby his profession, is well worth the effort in any case. As I turned to Hertha, I knew that I must dispense with much that I have to early in the morning out of the house late at night to come home, and my friends from Ludwigsfelde not so often can see. But the way it is ran, it is quite good.

there Was in your career a point where you have doubted, whether the whole effort is worth it?
The Phase, as I was always in pain at the groin and the Doctors have not found the cause for a long time, which was not easy for me.

Until you have a pelvic diagnosed misalignment and to correct a braces have been missed.
Exactly. That was a blessing. Still, I'll be glad when the clip comes out. I hope in the summer it is finally so far. Many say I should let you in.

when you become aware that you have a Talent that sets you apart from the crowd?
When I signed with Hertha as a youth player to my first sponsorship agreement. As I was, I think, 14 or 15. But you realize, of course, in tournaments in the youth, if you're awarded as the best player, best scorer. And in youth, you have almost every weekend a tournament.

Have you felt it as a kind of obligation, to this Talent?
There were probably days where you're not in such a good mood and maybe a little less to do. But for me, it was more of a commitment. I knew that football has to be it. There wasn't anything else. And I, for years, to six o'clock in the morning got up, it was worth it.

S ie are a young lad and get all sides of a lot of praise. How to handle this Hype?
I try to always bring my performance. Anything Negative about you in the paper very quickly. But it is not always easy, that's all. Of course, my friends with whom I was already in Kindergarten, my family and also the club help me.

Michael Preetz, Herthas Manager, said she would maybe one day be too big for Hertha. What is a sentence with them?
Nothing, really. It is a pleasure for me, but I can arrange quite well. Each player has goals in his career, and to win with Hertha in the Champions League, will probably be difficult.
