The number of measles cases worldwide has increased dramatically. You took in the first quarter of 2019, compared to the prior-year period by 300 percent, as the world health organization, WHO, announced on Monday in Geneva.
It had been more than 112.000 infections in 170 countries reported. A year earlier it had been almost 28,000 cases in 163 countries. It was preliminary and incomplete data, but it is a unique development was "recognizable," said the WHO.
The highly contagious and sometimes dangerous disease is on the rise again. In the rich countries, the spread of the measles goes back mainly to an increasing Impfskepsis. In poor areas of the world, many people have no access to the measles vaccination, the WHO complained. (nag/AFP)
