the 33-year-old Wa Lone and 29-year-old Kyaw Soe Oo was arrested in december 2017 and later convicted and sentenced for having received the secret statsdokument in connection with an examination of a mass murder of men and boys from the muslim rohingya population in Rakhine state. The verdict has received harsh criticism from a number of countries, and human rights defenders.
”They (the journalists) are kept behind bars for a reason: those in power are trying to silence the truth”, Reuters, editorin-chief Stephen J Adler said in a statement.
