In the 91 years of the life of the Academy, Hart is one of the few african americans that has been chosen to present the gala of the Oscars. Next to Hart, Chris Rock, Whoopi Goldberg and Richard Pryor have been the only hosts of black people who have submitted the ceremony to date.

Hart had been years in the wish to be the presenter of the Oscar. "If I can now start the campaign and participate in it, I am for the work," he said in 2015, according to The los Angeles Times, "it simply would take advantage of the opportunity." In 2016, told The New York Times that he believed that it would present the Academy awards "sooner than later". "I'm patient and I'll wait to do this," he said, "but there is no doubt in my head that it will happen.

The comedian is taking over from Jimmy Kimmel, host of the past two editions, which recorded data at a very low audience. In fact, the 90th edition was followed by 26.5 million people, the lowest figure in the history of the Oscars. The Academy has prepared some changes to make more dynamic the gala and reduce it to three hours in length and delivered several awards during the advertising space.

in Addition to the poor data of spectators that followed the ceremony, the awards ceremony has also been full of controversy. The Academy of motion picture Arts and Sciences has faced a strong reaction after actors and black movies featuring black characters were ignored in 2015 and 2016, which sparked the protest #OscarsSoWhite and it is claimed the Academy more inclusive. In addition, in the middle of the movement #MeToo, the women launched a number of accusations of sexual assault against Harvey Weinstein and other powerful in the film industry.
