The last days were volunteers busy, toads and other amphibians the Meersstraat and Scheutlagestraat. That work now seems to be all in vain. “Without consultation with Natuurpunt, or the paddenoverzetters were nearby canals to be cleared. By these works, which are all amphibians out there the past few days were transferred, under a thick layer of sludge landed on the banks of the stream and canals. Most of the toads, brown frogs, and salamanders are, therefore, died”, says Rik De Baere of Natuurpunt.
Aalst The annual paddenoverzet on the border between Gijzegem and Mespelare rescues every year, hundreds of animals, but all that work of the last years now seems to have been in vain. The canals near the paddenoverzet were, without consultation, removed. According to Natuurpunt are the many frogs, toads and salamanders in the environment, therefore, died.
