16 states to fight against the Trumps nødretstilstand

led by California, 16 states of the united states try to get a court to overturn president Donald Trumps decision to introduce nødretstilstand.

the States have filed a lawsuit against Trump and his government, by a district court in California.

California's attorney general justifies it with, that the president is "abusing" the power attached to the office. And thus he is at odds with the constitution.

- We put a lawsuit against Trump to prevent him from taking away the tax money that Congress has allocated to the people in our states, says minister for justice, Xavier Becerra, in a statement.

Becerra has previously announced that California would challenge the Trumps decision legally, because the state risks losing the funds meant for military projects, help for disasters, and for other purposes, writes the news agency AFP.

Trump took on Friday the controversial step of introducing nødretstilstand in an attempt to get funded the wall along the border with Mexico, which he has placed his followers in view.

the President has tried unsuccessfully to persuade Congress to set aside 5.7 billion dollars for its grænseprojekt.

Democrats in the two chambers of Congress have opposed the Trumps requirements, and the disagreement led in december to a partial shutdown of state government, because politicians could not agree on a budget by 2019.

The other 15 states in the lawsuit are Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Virginia.
