she managed to flee and reach safety, while he drove around and looked for her, inform the authorities.
The 13-year-old Jayme Closs was thin, upset and confused and wearing too large shoes, when she approached a stranger and asked for helped in the secluded little skovby Gordon in the Midwest.
It was here, she according to the police had been held in captivity by Jake Thomas Patterson, who was arrested shortly after and charged with the abduction and killing.
He was apparently out to look for the girl in his car.
According to the authorities, he broke into the girl's home with a shotgun in October and killed her mother and father in a carefully planned attack.
Patterson had among other things, shaved his head, so he would not leave hair in the house.
the News of the finding of the girl was greeted with a shout in her hometown Barroln small hundred kilometres away, where a large-scale search operation was completed, and where many had feared that the teenager had been killed.
I felt my legs shake under me. It was amazing. What pressure, what a relief, says sheriff Fitzgerald in Barron the moment when he learned that Jayne had been found.
Jayme has told residents of Gordon, who took her in and helped her, that she had fled from the hut, where she had been confined.
She did not say how or why. She said that she did not know the abductor, says a neighbor.
Investigators have not disclosed the details of the girl's escape, or her captivity. They say that there is no evidence that Patterson knew Jayme or her family, or had been in contact with her on social media.
- I know that everyone is searching for the answers to all these questions. Believe me, so do we, says Fitzgerald.
the Sheriff says that he does not know whether the girl was abused. She has been hospitalized for observation, but is printed again.
